The AI Standard Hubās inaugural Global Summit will explore the critical role of standards in AI governance, examining recent developments, key challenges, and emerging needs to foster global inclusiveness and collaboration in AI standardisation.
About the Summit
Our two-day event will bring together diverse stakeholders from across the international AI ecosystem to examine the current state of AI standardisation and explore the evolving role of standards in relation to AI governance frameworks and emerging regulation globally.
The programme will address both current developments and emerging questions in AI standardisation, providing a unique platform to address immediate priorities in making AI standards a robust governance tool for the here and now as well as to explore forward-looking strategies for supporting the governance of advanced AI systems of the future.
The Global Summit will be held on 17 and 18 March 2025 as a hybrid event in London and online. In-person attendance will be invitation-based, and sessions will be livestreamed and accessible to everyone.
What themes will it cover?
The Global Summit will feature a dynamic programme of keynote speeches, expert panels, and lightning talks designed to foster deeper alignment, knowledge-sharing, and collaboration among key stakeholder groups and decision-makers in pursuit of robust, equitable, and coordinated approaches to AI governance and standardisation.
Topics will include:
- The interplay between standards, regulation, and global governance frameworks for AI
- Inclusion and equitable participation in AI standards development across stakeholder groups and geographic regions
- Strategies for building a robust AI assurance ecosystem
- Opportunities for cross-fertilisation between the AI safety and AI standards communities
- Governance challenges in the context of foundation models and advanced AI systems and the role of standardisation in addressing them
Who will speak at the event?
The Global Summit will feature leading voices from standards development bodies, national governments, intergovernmental organisations, AI Safety Institutes, the wider AI safety research community, and civil society.

Karine Perset
Acting Head of Division, AI and Emerging Digital Technologies, OECD
Karine Perset is the Acting Head of the OECD AI and Emerging Digital Technologies Division, where she oversees the OECD.AI Policy Observatory, the Global Partnership on AI (GPAI) & integrated network of experts as well as the OECD Global Forum on Emerging Technologies.
Jesse Dunietz
AI Standards, Policy, and International Engagement Lead, NIST
Jesse Dunietz is a computer scientist at NIST, where he leads AI standards work, technical assistance on AI policy, and international engagements on AI for the NIST AI Innovation Lab.
Jan Ellsberger
Director-General, ETSI
Jan Ellsberger is a globally recognised leader in the ICT industry with more than 30 years of experience. He has also served in leading positions in several industry associations such as 3GPP, 5GAA, ERTICO and the Horizon Europe CCAM Association.
Tatjana Evas
Legal and Policy Officer, EU AI Office
Tatjana Evas is the lead lawyer representing the EU AI Office in the CEN/CENELEC JTC 21 and ISO SC 42. Furthermore, she is responsible for coordinating and developing guidance on the relationship between the AI Act and sectoral legislation.
Matt Gantley

Matt Gantley is the CEO of UKAS, a leading global Accreditation Body and major contributor to the UK and global quality infrastructure. With over 25 years of experience in conformity assessment, Matt has a distinguished career in the TIC Sector.
Arti Garg
Chair - Environmental Impacts of AI Working Group, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers
Arti Garg chairs the IEEE P7100 Environmental Impacts of AI standards working group. Over her career, she has held several AI and innovation leadership roles in the computing and industrial sectors. In the past, Garg has also worked in the U.S. government.
Travis Hall

Chris Meserole
Executive Director, Frontier Model Forum
Chris Meserole is the Executive Director of the Frontier Model Forum, a member supported nonprofit dedicated to advancing frontier AI safety and security. He previously served as the director of the Brookings AI and Emerging Technology Initiative and a fellow in the Brookings Foreign Policy Program.

Eduardo Paranhos is a lawyer qualified in Brazil, with nearly 30 years of professional experience specialising in technology regulations, corporate governance and intellectual property and is a founding partner of EPG Advogados; Head of the AI Working Group at the Brazilian Software Association.
Emily Campbell Ratcliffe

Emily Campbell-Ratcliffe is Head of AI Assurance at the UKās Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT). Emily leads DSITās efforts to support the growth of an ethical, trustworthy, and effective AI assurance ecosystem in the UK.

Elizabeth Seger is the Director of Digital Policy at Demos and research affiliate of the Centre for the Governance of AI. She leads research programs open-source model sharing strategy, epistemic security, and AI democratisation.
Adam Leon Smith
Chair, AIQI Consortium
Adam Leon Smith is an expert in AI regulation and technical standards and works on research and strategy projects. He is Chair of AIQI Consortium, a global initiative to promote the use of the quality infrastructure for responsible AI, and Deputy Chair of the UKās national AI standards committee.

Roberto Viola is Director General of DG CONNECT at the European Commission since 2015 and was the Deputy Director-General of DG CONNECT from 2012 to 2015. He served as Chairman of the European Radio Spectrum Policy group (RSPG) from 2012 to 2013, as Deputy Chairman in 2011 and Chairman in 2010.
Marta Ziosi

Marta Ziosi is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Oxford Martin AI Governance Initiative, where her research focuses on standards for General Purpose AI. She currently serves as a vice-chair for the EU GPAI Code of Practice in WG2: Risk identification and assessment, including evaluations.
Camilla de Coverly Veale

Camilla de Coverly Veale heads up AI Policy in the UK for the Mozilla Foundation. Previously she was Policy Director for Startup Coalition.
