The EU AI Act: a summary of its significance and scope
Abstract
This explainer will be particularly useful for UK and global policymakers, as the Act is likely to become, or at least aspires to be, a global standard – as the GDPR has become for personal data protection – and will of course be one model for any future UK post-EU bespoke legislation. This explainer is supplemented by two papers: A policy briefing which provides specific recommendations for EU policymakers for changes to be implemented into the final version of the AI Act. An expert opinion commissioned from Professor Lilian Edwards, a leading academic in the field of internet law, which addresses substantial questions about AI regulation in Europe, looking towards a global standard.
