A pro-innovation approach to AI regulation: government response
Overview
” In March 2023, the Government published a white paper setting out its proposals to establish a regulatory framework for AI to drive safe, responsible innovation. It set five principles for regulators to interpret and apply within their domains. It also included proposals for a central function within government to conduct a range of activities such as risk assessment and regulatory coordination to support the adaptability and coherence of its approach.
The Government held a 12-week public consultation on its proposals. It has now analysed the evidence which has informed its approach. The Government has also built into its response the key achievements from the AI Safety Summit in November 2023, as well as themes from its engagement ahead of the Summit.
